Ty Masterson, Kansas Senate President, addressed several state policy issues in a series of posts on April 7, 2026. His statements covered immigration, housing affordability legislation, and the recent veto by Governor Laura Kelly.

In his first post at 13:07 UTC, Masterson criticized Governor Laura Kelly’s approach to immigration and tax policy: “Laura Kelly has prioritized illegal aliens over Kansans. She chose to send your hard-earned tax dollars to benefit illegal immigrants, not Kansas families. I can ensure the people of Kansas that when I’m Governor, taxpayer-funded handouts for illegals will come grinding to a”.

Later that day at 14:14 UTC, Masterson discussed legislative action on housing affordability: “With the average first-time homebuyer now being 40-years old nationwide, the Legislature took action by passing SB 418 with a veto-proof supermajority. This bill will cut red tape, boost the supply of single-family homes, and increase housing affordability across Kansas. Be sure”.

At 20:15 UTC on April 7th, he commented on Governor Kelly’s veto of an informed consent bill: “Laura Kelly’s veto of a bill to guarantee informed consent is extreme by any measure and way out of line with Kansas values. The Senate will override this radical veto.”

Ty Masterson serves as President of the Kansas Senate and is a member of the Republican Party. Laura Kelly is currently serving as governor of Kansas after winning re-election in November 2022; her administration has often been at odds with Republican legislative leaders regarding spending priorities and social policies.
