BOIL ADVISORY Yesterday afternoon around 4:00 PM we got notice of a water main break on Fisher Street. The public works called in an emergency dig safe and began working on the leak ASAP. While repairing the leak, the amount of water that was lost caused South tower to drain completely and customers who get water from the South tower lost pressure completely. If pressure or flow are lost completely, this triggers the requirement of a boil order from KDHE.
At around 8 PM we reached out to KDHE to notify them of the loss of pressure and the need for the boil order. KDHE aided us in creating the boil order advisory for the area of town affected, which is about 65 customers. Due to the small section of town affected, KDHE required that Boil Order be hand delivered to every household affected. Three of the city employees handed the advisory out to the affected households last night.
KDHE requires that water samples be sent in to check for contaminants in the water. If the sample is cleared, KDHE will lift the Boil Order. If the sample is not cleared, we repeat the process of sending in samples until we have a clean and cleared sample. The first sample is being sent to KDHE this morning and results will not be available until tomorrow at the earliest. We will continue to keep updates on our Facebook and residents affected will be notified when the order is lifted.
For any questions, please feel free to contact the City Hall at (785) 945-6612 or KDHE at (785) 296-5514.
