Registration Open for Heartland Literature Festival at Washburn University

Washburn University will host the Heartland Literature Festival featuring keynote speaker and author, Lisa Fipps. The event is Thursday, Oct. 6, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Washburn A&B Room in the Memorial Union. The Heartland Literature Festival is sponsored by the Washburn University education and English departments and Writing Conference, Inc. It is open to the Washburn community and general public.

      The deadline to register is Sept. 30 on the Writing Conference website: https://www.thewritingconference.com/store-1/p/literature-festival-registration. The festival will feature a keynote speech from Fipps about her book “Starfish,” followed by a Q&A about the book and book signing. The Festival will also have reading and writing workshops for children, young adults and teachers. It is recommended that attendees read “Starfish” prior to attending the festival.

      Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. This event is $15 per student or for individual adult and free for adults with five or more Washburn students. Registration and payment can be made on the website.

      Lunch will be available in the Lincoln Dining Hall on campus for anyone who does not bring their own. Students and adults who are paying individually can purchase a dining ticket at the registration table the day of the event. Dining tickets for a group must be purchased in advance no later than Monday, Oct. 3 at 3 p.m. Individual tickets for each person in a group are $8.79 and individual tickets for each person in a tax-exempt group are $8.05. Tax exempt group tickets require a tax-exempt form and payment with a school credit card. To purchase tickets for your group call (785) 670-1359 or email lorraine.leichtgillgannon@washburn.edu
