POSITION:  Chief of Police

The City of Rossville, Kansas, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Chief of Police. The Chief of Police directs the activities of the police department personally or through staff members. This role provides the new Police Chief the opportunity to fill a full-time vacancy in the department, as well as plan and oversee the potential growth of the department over the foreseeable future.

The City of Rossville, KS is a 3rd class city with a population of 1105, located approximately 17 miles west of Topeka, Kansas on US 24 Hwy in Shawnee County.

TYPE:  The Police Chief is a full-time position, appointed by the mayor, confirmed by the council.

SALARY:  Starting annual salary will be determined by experience and training.  Benefits include vacation and sick leave, holiday pay, KPF retirement, paid family BCBS medical coverage.

QUALIFICATIONS:  This position requires a minimum of 5-10 years of law enforcement experience. A minimum of five years of law enforcement supervisory experience is preferred. A high school diploma or GED is required. A college degree in Criminal Justice or a related field is preferred. This position requires certification from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center or equivalent and also requires 40 hours of continuing education annually.

Thorough polygraph examination and background investigation, in addition to post-offer steps that may be required. Must successfully pass the psychological evaluation, drug screen, and physical.  No Brady-Giglio issues.
