Music Will Once Again Fill White Concert Hall March 10 And March 25
The Washburn department of music will be hosting music concerts March 10 and March 25 at White Concert Hall on the Washburn University campus. Both concerts are free and open to the public.
Eder-Tan Duo Faculty Recital
When: 7:30-8:40 p.m. Friday, March 10
Where: White Concert Hall on the Washburn University campus
Washburn University faculty members Dr. Zsolt Eder, director of string studies/applied violin and viola, and Dr. Lucy Tan, director of keyboard studies/applied piano, will perform a duo sonatas concert featuring work by Beethoven and Debussy. The recital will last an hour, with a 10 minute intermission.
The program will feature the following works:
Beethoven, Sonata No. 4 in A minor for Violin and Piano, Op. 23
Beethoven, Sonata No. 5 in F major for Violin and Piano, Op. 24 “Spring”
Debussy, Sonata in G minor for Violin and Piano, L. 140
“Playing with Ghosts,” Duos Percussion and Computer Concert
When: 6-7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 25
Where: White Concert Hall on the Washburn University campus
Prepare to be transported to a world where man and machine come together in a unique and exciting way as Dr. Von Hansen, assistant professor of percussion at Washburn University, presents “Playing with Ghosts.”
The concert will feature an exciting series of pieces that meld a variety of percussion sounds with computer-generated soundscapes, showcasing the incredible possibilities that arise when musicians and technology work together.
Hansen will perform music on snare drum and Cort Lippe will provide computer generated music. The computer tracks the snare drum performance and uses this information to continuously influence and manipulate the computer sound output, resulting in an otherworldly auditory experience.
The concert will also feature Chad Heiny’s “Auroras,” which creates images of multi-colored auroras using orchestral bells and a computer, as well as “Maturin,” which represents a giant turtle that holds the world on its back with booming bass drums.
Hansen will also perform several of his own compositions, including “It’s Like the Nothing Never Was” with an interactive computer system and “Grawlix” for live looping musicians, which creates the sense of a live DJ set.
