Kansas has become a key state for Midwesterners seeking reproductive care.

Timing is a critical element for many in search of access to an abortion. State law allows for legal abortions in the first 22 weeks of pregnancy. Abortion pills are effective until about 11 weeks.

Many patients travel hundreds of miles to Kansas. Others leave the state in hopes of scheduling the procedure where it is both legal and a doctor is available.

Supporters are racing to keep up with the challenges.
