Dan Hawkins, Speaker of the Kansas House of Representatives, recently posted a series of updates on legislative activities and engagements at the state capitol.
On February 2, 2026, Hawkins announced that he and Senate President Ty Masterson had sent legislation to the governor for approval. He stated, “This afternoon, Senate President Ty Masterson and I sent House Sub for SB 244 to the Governor’s desk. This is just common sense, ensuring that government documents reflect reality and that women and girls are safe in single sex public spaces. While I hope the Governor will”.
The following day, February 3, 2026, Hawkins shared details about his meeting with Kansas Realtors at the capitol. He wrote, “Had a great time chatting with Kansas Realtors for their day at the capitol this afternoon. We spoke about the work being done this session and in past years to address affordability, including reducing waste in our budget, lowering taxes for all Kansans, and taking a close look”.
On February 4, 2026, Hawkins highlighted legislative action related to congressional term limits. He posted: “Today the Kansas House passed HCR 5022, which seeks to join us with 12 other states asking for a constitutional convention for the purpose of enacting term limits on congress. For far too long career politicians in Washington DC have remained in office, not in service to those”.
Hawkins has been active as Speaker since January 2023. The push for HCR 5022 aligns with ongoing national debates regarding congressional term limits; currently, several states have called for an Article V convention focused on this issue but none has yet occurred. Legislative efforts like SB 244 reflect broader trends among state governments seeking changes to gender-related policies in public spaces.
